The Weekend’s Activities

Let’s see, this weekend was a pleasant one although we would have liked to cram in more pop culture activities than we did. We just ran out of time.

On Friday evening, Paul and I continued our treasure hunting in Titan Quest. That is what the game has become for us – a frenzied quest for Epic items, which we became obsessed with after seeing what was available at the GameBanshee site. We’re now both now sitting at Level 42.

Although this is more suitable for my single player character, a necromancer-cross-Earth mage, my multiplayer character, an Earth battlemage is now using the following:

Summoner's Rod
80 Base Fire Damage
Speed: Slow

93-117 Burn Damage Over 3 Seconds
+33% Fire Damage
+18 Intelligence
+80 Health
+1.5 Energy Regeneration/Second
-20 Reserved Energy Cost
+41 Defensive Ability
+2 to Summon Core Dweller
+2 to Summon Liche King

Required Intelligence: 362

With his low stats, my new little Core Dweller acts more like a mobile shield and distraction than any kind of effective damage dealer. But he’s certainly useful to have. One day my single-player character will get my battlemage’s hand-me-downs.

Anyway, on Saturday, Paul’s obsession with Subway sandwiches (still a novelty in South Africa) saw us travel all the way out to Ballito to the sole franchise in KwaZulu-Natal. What was originally supposed to be a trip with only a few of us ended up involving a healthy contingent of the Durbz crowd. It was interesting to see how much Ballito has developed since I was last there a few years back. The new shopping malls under construction have a great look and, with all stores opening out into the parking lot, allow you to get some refreshing sunlight and fresh air while you window shop.

After checking out the impressive pilot Mr Price Sport store (with reasonably priced sport and outdoor clothing/equipment), Shirley and I tormented the guys in tow by making them wait while we tried on bikinis in a surf store. The boyfriends of course had to stand in close proximity to the change rooms to answer the ever important question, ‘Does this suit me?’

In the evening back at my place Paul and I watched Little Britain Live (God, I need one of those T-shirts from the online store!), and The Punisher movie. I know a lot of comic fans were severely disappointed by the movie (starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta) but I think that if you, like me, don’t have an emotional investment in the series, you’re more accepting of the liberties taken – as I was with Judge Dredd.

As a revenge-action film I felt it was decent, if pretty generic and sanitised.

On Sunday, Paul and I attempted to launder our Sharks season tickets vouchers at Sibaya Casino. The poker machines were rather un-cooperative, but hey, it’s not our money we’re gambling with. Anything we walked away with is pure profit. Unfortunately at that point Paul was called into the office for a work-related emergency so that was the last I saw of him on the weekend. I resisted snoozing the afternoon away and instead worked from 3-10pm in front of my PC, digitising and colouring my latest Girlz ‘N’ Games comic strip (see below).

I had the Sunday night movie, The Island on in the background. I was actually pretty impressed by the Michael Bay Sci-fi/Action flick. Distanced from the trailers that gave the film’s twist away, it was highly enjoyable, and in the same category I suppose as Minority Report. Plus it served as a nice reminder of how much I like Ewan ‘Mr Diversity’ McGregor.

I think you and Paul's lives will be over once Hellgate:London is released, if you love Titan Quest that much !

Funny enough, The Island and The Punisher (the only Marvel movie I haven't seen) are on my list of next to rent movies.
