Trailer Tuesday: Casino Royale

I’ve grown up watching James Bond movies. They’re pretty much family films in my household as everyone gathers to watch them on TV, or goes together to see the new releases at the cinema. With the exception of Roger Moore, I’ve liked all the Bonds, and Brosnan’s The World Is Not Enough is one of my favourite films in the entire series.

However, my enthusiasm for Casino Royale has been muted until this point. This hasn’t been because of the rather controversial casting of Daniel Craig as the new 007 – watch the trailer to see why Mr Craig is one of the most steely-looking and ultra-buff Bonds yet.

Rather I haven’t really cared about the franchise since the crap that was Die Another Day, which emerged more as an exercise in product placement rather than a film, with a rubbish storyline, an over-reliance on bad special effects, and way too much hype about Halle Berry’s supposedly ‘sexy’ performance. Blergh.

However, this trailer for Casino Royale makes me think the film is going to be a great entry in the series: it looks tight, packed with awesome stunts, and refreshingly free of all the excess and in-jokes that bogged down Die Another Die. It could actually be as cool as Dalton’s Licence to Kill, one of the most under-rated 007 flicks, and one of my absolute favourites.

Casino Royale is released in North America and the UK on 17 November, and in South Africa on 1 December.

I'm not a bond fan although I do enjoy the odd Bond movie, but I don't know what all the commotion of Daniel Craig being the new Bond is all about ?!

I think it's a brilliant, refreshing cast and could be good for the series. I admit I wasn't blown away by the trailer, but I still would love to watch it.

The next movie I'm dying to watch is...Borat.

Oh, Borat, definitely! It looks absolutely brilliant. In fact that's the trailer for next Tuesday ;)

What I like in terms of the Casino Royale trailer is that it looks like the film meets the franchise's requirements, while returning to the series' origins. I mean it's Bond as he's getting started as a Double-0.

Somehow I've made it through nearly 28 years without ever having seen a James Bond movie.
