Trailer Tuesday: Quantum of Solace

Well, the new Punisher trailer will have to wait for another week. Yesterday the first trailer for the next James Bond film, Quantum of Solace debuted online.

And it looks fantastic.

Following on directly from Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace focuses on Agent 007's (Daniel Craig) struggle between sticking to his government assigned duty and succumbing to his own personal desire for revenge after the death of his love. What Bond discovers as his globetrotting mission takes him to Austria, Italy, Haiti and South America is a mysterious, incredibly powerful organisation set on controlling one of the world's most important natural resources.

I know a number of people have complained that the new Bond series seems to be influenced more by the Bourne Identity franchise than the work of Ian Fleming or any of the previous Bond films. Watching this trailer, I don't believe this is the case at all. Sure, the "rebooted" series is grittier, but everything you expect of a Bond film is right there - jaw dropping stunts, stunning locations, beautiful women and plenty of carnage involving sports cars, speedboats and private planes.

Roll on 21 November. This born and bred James Bond junkie can't wait!

Of course the Bond films are going to look like the Bourne films. Geez, the Bourne films were modeled off the Bond films!

Snake biting its own tail, people.

Exactly my thoughts, mjenks :)

But I'm pretty sure Bond beats Bourne on the technology, hardware and general glamour fronts.

Admittedly I've only ever seen bits and pieces of the Bourne films, but they seem devoid of sports cars, private planes, fancy watches and any scenes involving tuxedos and evening gowns. Bond is about more than backstreet espionage in grimy alleys - a huge part of it is seeing characters lead an enviable lifestyle where they are surrounded by the best of everything.
