Sarah Connor Chronicles a hit!

For those of you interested in my adventures in the Drakensberg this last weekend I'm afraid you'll have to wait a few days - holiday posts are rather lame without pics to accompany them and our digital camera was just one of things we forgot to pack this weekend. I'll only be getting my paws on the photos taken by a friend sometime later this week, so expect a report-back then.

Anyway, in terms of entertainment news, new action sci-fi TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles debuted with a bang this last week in the United States. Granted the Writers' Strike means that competition for ratings is limited and television audiences are starved for new scripted series, but Terminator had an impressive debut, scoring the highest opening-night ratings of any new show in the past 3 years. It achieved 18.3 million viewers and was especially popular with audiences in the 18-49 age bracket.

Ain't It Cool News
collected a number of reviews of the premiere back-to back episodes and the verdict seems to be a solid "Good". Whether such a high concept, action-packed series can sustain itself without quickly becoming repetitive is another matter.

However, as a big fan of the Terminator film trilogy, I'm looking forward to watching the series, which follows on from the events of Terminator 2, and casts aside Terminator 3's carnage as occuring on a different timeline. Feisty single mom Sarah Connor (300's Lena Headey) and humanity's future saviour, 15 year old John Connor (Heroes' Thomas Dekker) remain on the run from the law (as well as more Terminators sent from the future), while continuing their task of destroying Skynet.

I'm holding thumbs that the currently complete 8 episodes of The Sarah Connor Chronicles receive a decent timeslot on a main South African TV channel, instead of being hidden away on an obscure DSTV channel at an unwatchable time.

It's so weird that you're speaking about this today. I downloaded and watched the first episode yesterday (second one on the way).

It's an alright show with some impressive special effects. Sadly it felt a tad-bit lame sometimes, especially when you consider the movie's cannon. It started and ended with a bang, but I'm not too sure how they are going to draw this show out with more seasons.

I'm still finding it hard to slot in it in after T2 and before T3. There is something about it I just can't belive. Maybe I just need to watch a few more episodes.

hhmm... I heard the series got canned. Only one episode (maybe 2) made. One of the many pilot series' that didn't make it. Same as 'Lost Room' which I also loved.

To my knowledge there are 8-9 episodes already in the can, and they've been complete for quite some time.

Depending how ratings hold up for the first 4 or so episodes, the series may be continued. But only after the Writers' Strike is resolved, of course. Apparently if it were to go ahead, the show's creator has already plotted events for 3 full series.

But who knows? Perhaps 8 episodes is best, and leave it at that.

Lord Spaceman, apparently the TV series ignores Terminator 3, so it's unlikely we'll have to see Sarah wasting away from cancer.
