Entertainment bits for Friday: Caspian, Batman and Joe

Some images, moving and still, for this Friday morning, to kick off the weekend on a good note.

First up, here's the new trailer for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe sequel, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which is due out next month in the States and on 6 June in South Africa.

The emphasis in this trailer is squarely on action - no doubt to appeal to older males who were so dismissive of the first film as a boring family film.

I was definitely NOT one of those viewers.

I'm a firm believer that Narnia is not Middle Earth and should not be treated as such. So, watching this new trailer, I am a tad concerned about the close resemblance to The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - oh, look, trebuchets hurling rocks at a castle under siege!

However, the more I think about it, the more the imagery grows on me. Out of all of CS Lewis's Narnia Chronicles, Prince Caspian (next to The Last Battle) IS the most war focused. If Disney and Walden Media keep on making Narnia films based on the books, epic battles will take a backseat in the next 2 movies. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is an adventure on the Narnian high seas, and The Silver Chair is a brooding mystery filled with dark magic.

At least the battles of Prince Caspian won't be an exact duplication of those in Return of the King. King Miraz's entirely human forces will face off against Caspian's ragtag army of fantasy creatures. That should make for some awesome battle scenes, as the trailer suggests.

The new Dark Knight poster popped up online on one of the film's viral marketing sites yesterday. I like the image a lot, although I do have to wonder why Bats seems to be running around so much in broad daylight in this film?

The Dark Knight is released locally on 25 July.

And to round off this update, click here for a whole bunch of images from the GI Joe live-action film, due out next year. These images first appeared at What Would Tyler Durden Do, but were swiftly removed after legal threats from the studio. So enjoy these while you can... Mmmm, lots of buff boys and girls in skintight outfits with just a smattering of body armour. Here's Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, a high altitude paratrooper.

We'll leave it there for today. To all the South African blog readers, have a great long weekend. See you on Tuesday!

That's pretty cool. I dressed up one year as Ripcord for Halloween. I remember him having an all-camouflage suit, though.

Seems as though they're going with the X-Men pattern of dropping the goofy uniforms and making them wear all black leather and body armor.

Yeah, mjenks, I'm getting a definite X-Men "Let's dress them all the same" vibe from the outfits I've seen so far.

I guess it makes sense. However, unlike X-Men, the GI Joe characters can afford to be a bit goofy looking. I'm hoping the film will be ridiculous fun.

I admit my dream trailer would be a frame-for-frame duplication of the cartoon intro.
