South African cinema release dates
This release date schedule doesn't cover every film... just what are high profile enough to have piqued my interest, and may also be of interest to you.
Today (30 March):
300 - Ancient Greek epic based on Frank Miller's award-winning graphic novel.
Mr Bean's Holiday - You know this slapstick comedy will clean up at the box office thanks to South Africans' puerile taste in movies.
---
5 April 2007
Ghost Rider - The latest Marvel comic adaptation, starring Nicholas Cage as the flaming skull headed biker. Bad reviews but apparently audiences like it.
Bridge To Terabithia - High acclaimed family-friendly fantasy based on the bestselling novel.
---
13 April 2007
Meet The Robinsons - The newest Disney 3D animated movie, with a Jetsons style look at the future.
Norbit - Eddie Murphy playing multiple roles again in an apparently vile, misogynistic comedy.
---
20 April 2007
Hannibal Rising - How cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter got started... Based on Thomas Harris's novel. Sans Anthony Hopkins.
Sunshine - Danny Boyle's sci-fi movie. Expect claustrophobia and paranoia. From the director of Trainspotting and 28 Days Later.
Hot Fuzz - The latest Brit comedy from the same team who brought you Shaun of the Dead. Think gung-ho cops and small town murder mysteries.
---
27 April 2007
Crank - Cheesy, literally adrenalin pumping action flick starring "The Transporter", Jason Statham.
---
4 May 2007
Spider Man 3 - The third in the Spider Man movie series. This time with Venom! Also showing at IMAX.
I Could Never Be Your Woman - Michelle Pfeiffer's romantic comedy return to the big screen. With Paul Rudd as the younger man love interest.
---
11 May 2007
The Hills Have Eyes 2 - More bloody horror as the mutant hillbillies prey on travellers with car trouble.
Blades of Glory - Comedy starring Will Ferrell and Jon "Napoleon Dynamite" Heder as rival figure skaters.
---
25 May 2007
Pirates of the Caribbean: World's End - Final installment of the smash-hit pirate adventure series. This time with a Far Eastern flavour.
---
15 June 2007
Ocean's 13 - Yes, yet another of these all-star crime caper films.
---
13 July 2007
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - The fifth film based on JK Rowling's series of fantasy novels. This time Harry and the gang struggle to convince the wizarding world that evil Voldemort has returned.
------------
On a totally unrelated note, you can probably expect a new Girlz 'N' Games comic strip on Monday... Think 300!
