Hot stuff! Watchmen and Prince of Persia movie news
Aint It Cool News posted a link to a CHUD interview with Zack Snyder, director of 300, and Watchmen, the ultimate 'can they really adapt such a masterpiece?' graphic novel.
It turns out that Tom Cruise has narrowly missed out on the role of Ozymandias, a superhero genius who has cleverly profited by revealing his secret identity and turning himself into a massive brand. My first thought was 'What?!' but on deeper consideration, Cruise has the intensity and borderline craziness to pull off the role of a prettyboy hero. But alas, schedules didn't permit, so no Cruise for Watchmen.
Other revelations in the CHUD interview:
- Watchmen will be R-Rated (as any fan knows it has to be).
- Watchmen will be set in alternate reality 1985.
- The Tales of the Black Freighter, the pirate comic that's so vital in Alan Moore's graphic novel, will be visualised in the movie.
In other news off the CHUD site, Walt Disney has released new studio artwork for, among other things, Toy Story 3, Prince Caspian and Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Included in the batch is concept art for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, one of my favourite ever sword-swinging-wall-running-time-controlling video games!
Apparently POP is being set up as new 'Pirates of the Caribbean' action franchise by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, for release in 2008. And here I was thinking the project was doomed to development hell after it was last mentioned about 3 years ago. Read more about it here.
Damn, the concept art is pretty!
