Music makes the world go round...

Right, so most South Africans know about the 2 My Coke Fest 2007 concerts at the end of April and beginning of May.

Not many people, however, seem to know that South Africa is also going to be hosting one of the Live Earth concerts, Al Gore's latest venture to increase awareness of, and raise funds to fight climate change and global warming. Modelled on the famous Live Aid series of concerts in 1985, Live Earth will see some of the world's top musical performers performing on stages across the globe on 7 July 2007. Johannesburg is one of the host cities.

Our list of performers have yet to be announced but confirmed acts so far include AFI, The Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, Corrine Bailey Rae, Faith Hill, Korn , John Mayer, Kanye West, Lenny Kravitz, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Snow Patrol and many more.

Organizers have stated a goal of reaching an audience of 2 billion people through TV and online broadcasts. You can read more about Live Earth here.

If however all this tree-hugging hippiness is too much for you to stomach, you may, like me, glare at the Download 2007 line-up with great burning envy. Paul went to last year's 3-day alternate rock concert in the UK, and this year, the growing line-up is superb (my faves in bold).

Top lining: My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Iron Maiden.

The others:

Bowling For Soup
Bring Me The Horizon
Buckcherry
Devil Driver
Dimmu Borgir
DragonForce
Dream Theater
Enter Shikari
Evanescence
Gallows
Killswitch Engage
Korn
Lamb Of God
Machine Head
Megadeth
Marilyn Manson
Mötley Crüe
Slayer
Shadows Fall
Thirty Seconds to Mars
Turbonegro
Velvet Revolver
Wolfmother
