Stardust new pics

Ow, why is it that stiffness only sets in 24 hours after the exercise? Damn. Anyway, I was quite productive last night, finally wading through the mound of papers where I throw all my bank statements, accounts, receipt slips, flyers and scribbled-on scraps of paper. I threw away all the crap (filling the dustbin) and filed away everything important. How's that for festive organisation?

Anyway, in terms of movie news, three new Stardust pics have surfaced online at Cinema Blend. The pic of Michelle on her enchanted chariot we've seen before, but I really love the one of fallen star Yvaine (Claire Danes) riding a unicorn.

And Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Ian McKellen will be the film's narrator. Fantastic!

The offbeat fantasy, based on Neil Gaiman's novel, will be released in mid 2007.

In other news, Quidditch is taking off! On the ground that is. Although I unfortunately can't access the subscribers-only article on the Wall Street Journal site, Harry Potter site, The Leaky Cauldron has posted up the following on a real life adaptation of the wizarding world's most popular sport (according to JK Rowling, anyway):

Today's edition of the Wall Street Journal reports that a new fad is sweeping college campuses across the U.S. -- Intramural (earthbound) Quidditch! The article is available online to paid subscribers, and TLC is happy to provide some highlights:

In Quidditch games played at Middlebury College in Vermont, one student IS the Snitch, and attempts to outrun the other players.

"Rainey Johnson, sporting a yellow shirt, yellow socks and yellow paint smeared on his face, darted across the freshman quad. Other students, in capes, ran after him clutching brooms between their legs and grasping in vain for a tennis ball stuffed in a sock hanging out of his yellow shorts."

At Marlboro College, a toy helicopter launched from a slingshot serves as the Snitch, and must be caught before it reaches the ground. Water-soaked foam balls become Bludgers, and a volleyball is used as the Quaffle.

Middlebury's model, though (with a student Snitch, Dodgeball Bludgers and a volleyball Quaffle "aimed at gold-painted Hula Hoops mounted on chairs"), is catching on at other east coast colleges: Bucknell and Vassar students are putting Quiddtich teams together for the spring using "Middlebury rules."

Middlebury student Alexander Benepe and friends started the Quidditch craze at their school last year, and have seen it grow tremendously this fall.

"About 30 Middlebury students played pickup games almost every weekend this fall, usually two or three matches, before heading to a 'Quidditch World Cup' that drew five teams and about 60 players this month.

"'We are the first college students who grew up reading Harry Potter,' says Mr. Benepe, a sophomore from New York City. 'It's very much a book of our generation.'"

It actually sounds awesome. So who wants to join me in starting up South Africa's first ever Quidditch league?

You can see more pics of terrestrial Quidditch here. And for those of you still interested, you can read more on Quidditch here.

And here's a fantastic article on the Middlebury Quidditch rules, which are as follows:

So, what exactly are the rules of this adapted version? The "pitch," approximately 60 yards long, has three desk chairs from Battell at each end. Duck-taped to each of these chairs are hula-hoops. The object of the game is for the "chasers" to score points by putting the Quaffle (a volleyball) through the opposing team's hoops. Ten points are awarded each time the Quaffle is sent past the keeper through the opposing hoops. The team that captures the Golden Snitch (usually a small, fast moving ball with wings and in this case a very fit cross-country runner dressed all in yellow) earns 150 points. The snatching of the Snitch (done only by the "Seekers") marks the end of a game. All the while, "Beaters," as they are known, are trying to hit the opposing players with red playground balls known as "Bludgers." And, of course, every player must have a broomstick between his or her legs at all times.
