Trailer Tuesday: Star Wars - The Clone Wars

Unfortunately, for some frustrating reason, embedding has been disabled on all versions of this YouTube trailer, so you'll have to click here to view it.

Anyway, if I was George Lucas I'd be seriously embarrassed - embarrassed while rolling around in my Olympic size pool of money, but embarrassed nonetheless. You see, in recent years the most exciting projects to be set in Star Wars universe have not come from the pen of the Bearded One.

Rather, they've been the creations of others.

The Knights of the Old Republic video game, the Cartoon Network Clone Wars animated series, and the many spin-off novels (which admittedly I haven't read) have all been more dynamic and full blooded than anything on offer in Lucas's "new" film trilogy, Episodes 1 through 3.

Now we're being treated to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a CGI-animated movie that looks similarly excellent.

Set during the Clone Wars period like the other animated Star Wars series, The Clone Wars forms an introduction to a new Star Wars TV series - also in CGI-animation - that debuts in the States later this year.

The plot of the film and TV series is as follows:
The Clone Wars is raging on between the Separatists and the Galactic Republic. However when Jabba the Hutt's Son is taken by a group of renegades two Jedi are summoned to look further into this matter. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi depart in search of answers on where the Hutt's son is and who this mysterious renegade group is working for. Before leaving Yoda sends Ahsoka Tano as Anakin's apprentice. Anakin finds himself dueling Count Dooku once more. However, the Sith have plans to create a three-way war, including the Hutts.

I know some of you will be thinking "More Star Wars set during the Clone Wars? Can't they focus on anything else?". Personally I think it's a good decision though, as it's the period when the Jedi are most mobilised, and the best and most badass of these intergalactic Paladins are still alive, dishing out justice with their Force powers.

I really hope this one gets a cinema release in South Africa instead of going straight to DVD. I'd love to see it on the big screen.

I was utterly unimpressed with the Jedi in the prequels. As you say, they are the best and most badass galactic paladins, and yet, they either died way too simply or were too dumb to realize what was going on.

Here's to hoping that Clone Wars is able to shuffle off that bad taste left in my mouth.

I think a movie/series based on Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order would be kind of cool. Maybe.

A Jedi Resurrection series would be very cool indeed.

I was similarly disappointed in the Jedi in Episodes 1 through 3, but I really grasped a sense of their powers and potential in the first Clone Wars animated series. Arty and amazing!
