Heads up!
I’m really not looking forward to this week. With my copy creative director away, and no replacement for my sidekick copywriter (who left last week), I’m going to be almost the only copywriter in the building – well, apart from the senior copywriter director who works chiefly in multimedia. Anyway, that means plenty of writing, proofing and decision-making on my plate.
What that means for this blog is that you can expect updates to be a little disrupted this week. You’ll still be getting at least 1 a day, but their timing might be a little unpredictable…
Anyway, you can look forward to quite a few things this week. There are reviews I need to write up for The Simpsons Movie as well as 28 Weeks Later. Plus, I finally finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Sunday, so you can expect my (relatively) spoiler-free commentary on that.
As for events this past weekend, it was a very busy one. This was largely because Paul was flying off to work again on Sunday so we had to cram all our planned activities into Friday evening and Saturday.
Friday evening was a much-needed session of World of WarCraft, where I finally learnt the value of using the Auction House as opposed to simply selling items straight back to traders. You can actually turn quite a nice profit – I’m currently filling the gap in the market for “special” leather armour for low level characters. Anyway, here’s a recent pic of my character and her pet boar.
On Saturday we had to head to Sibaya Casino to spend gambling vouchers that came with the Sharks season tickets. I didn’t do too badly, although Paul had no luck. Out of R400 we were given to gamble with, I think we took home R280.
Otherwise we spent a good portion of Saturday at the Westville Civic Centre where they were having the first model railway expo on 10 years. From glancing around the hall, it was very obvious that model railroading is still very much an older man’s hobby, even if the little kids there were captivated by the moving trains. Personally, having dabbled in miniatures painting, I was more interested in the scenery. Some of the modellers had crafted some amazingly convincing, weathered environments for their trains to travel through.
And in the later afternoon we finally got around to watching bloody zombie sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
With Paul away on Sunday, I finished Harry Potter, did some admin tasks, caught up on Heroes, watched gaming trailers on the NAG DVD and visited my little cousin – who’s back in hospital on Tuesday to have the silicone wound protection removed from his burnt arm. And then in the evening I actually ended up drawing and colouring my first Girlz ‘N’ Games in around 3 months. And, yes, it's World of WarCraft related...
Hmmm, with Paul away this week, perhaps my project for the evenings should be designing a website entirely dedicated to the gaming cartoon, to help put some online spit & polish behind it.
