Weekend Activities

Well, it was a pretty quiet weekend. After a tough, laggy first week back, work finished early on a very sunny and hot Friday. I spent the rest of the afternoon flaked out on couch dozing and then did much the same on Friday evening.

On the very hot Saturday we headed to the beach to explore the Brighton Beach rock pools at low tide, but apart from a hiding lobster we didn’t find anything more interesting than the standard tropical fish. In the afternoon we floated around the pool back at my place, put my sister’s smoothie maker to good use and had a braai. Saturday was also Robin’s birthday so to celebrate we went to his place in the evening to play Ticket to Ride, the Marklin Collectors Edition.

Sunday was wet, typical of Durban’s current 7 day weather cycle that ensures at least half of the weekend is cloudy to downright cold and miserable. Paul and I lazed around, watched several episodes of the Gummi Bears DVD, played Titan Quest (we both picked up some very nice skill-enhancing items as we drew to the end of the Greek stage on Epic difficulty), and played some squash in the afternoon. In the evening I finally got to some much needed admin tasks like PC back-ups that I had been neglecting, and watched The Fantastic 4 again.

Anyway, it’s my birthday on Wednesday, and I’m pondering doing something to celebrate on the coming weekend. I’m thinking of keeping the admin to a minimum though, so it would be something away from home like a Saturday afternoon picnic at Botanical Gardens, a Sunday braai at a dam (weather permitting), or even brunch or dinner somewhere. Any suggestions?
