Watchmen official casting, and Harry Potter casting rumours squashed

Alright, I've been sitting on this info since the beginning of the week but up until this point the announcements haven't been official. Now they are!

The Hollywood Reporter has the list of who's playing who in Zack Snyder's ambitious film adaptation of Watchmen, arguably the greatest superhero-themed graphic novel ever written (from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons).

Here's an extract from the Hollywood Reporter article, highlighting the plot and cast:

Set in an alternate America, "Watchmen" follows costumed hero Rorschach, who is living a vigilante lifestyle because most masked heroes have retired or been outlawed. While investigating a murder, Rorschach learns that a former masked-hero colleague has been killed, prompting him to begin investigating a possible conspiracy.

Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children) will play Walter Kovacs, aka Rorschach, who ignores the ban on costumed vigilantes.

Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Big Fish) will play Dr. Manhattan, a superpowered being with godlike powers and temperament.

Malin Akerman (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) will play Laurie Juspeczyk/the Silk Spectre, who is involved with Dr. Manhattan -- but that relationship begins to fall apart as he becomes more disconnected from humanity.

Matthew Goode (Match Point, The Lookout) will play Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, a costume adventurer who retired voluntarily, disclosed his identity and built a large fortune. He hatches a plot to avert a global catastrophe he believes will be caused by Dr. Manhattan.

Patrick Wilson (Little Children, Hard Candy) will play the Nite-Owl, a crime-figher who uses technical wizardry and has an owl-shaped flying vehicle.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey's Anatomy) will play the Comedian, a cigar-chomping, gun-toting vigilante-turned-paramilitary agent.

"Watchmen," created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, is one of the most critically acclaimed series in the genre. The comic is credited for redefining the superhero genre and often is referred to as the "War and Peace" of comic books. It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes. "Watchmen" appeared as the only graphic novel on Time magazine's list of the 100 best novels since 1923.

Aint It Cool News has been oh-so-kind to compile the same list with pictures, so you can see exactly who's playing who... Check it out here.

Anyway, over the past few days, there have been rumours surfacing online that Naomi Watts, Joseph Fiennes, and Stuart Townsend will be joining the cast of the 6th Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Although there was no mention of the characters these stars would play, the natural assumption was that Aussie Watts would be donning the black robes, snow-white complexion and snooty "Is that shit I smell?" expression of Narcissa Malfoy, wife to Death Eater Lucius (Jason Isaacs) and mother to Draco (Tom Felton).

Now it turns out that these casting rumours are completely false, with the actors' reps denying that they have been approached.

It doesn't surprise me really... Watts would be great as Narcissa but I seriously doubt the film makers will break from their "Brits only" casting rule for the last 2 films.
